If you’re planning a rustic wedding on Vancouver Island, you might have noticed there aren’t as many barn-heavy options as you’d find in rural Ontario (trust me, I know—I’ve shot more weddings in barns than I can count). But don’t worry! There are still some hidden gems on the island that can give you that perfect rustic vibe. I’ve been lucky enough to shoot at a few of them, and let me tell you—these places are worth your time. Whether you’re into mountain views, farm animals, or lakefront sunsets, these three rustic wedding venues on Vancouver Island are total standouts.
Langtry Walk
Langtry Walk in Saanich is a great spot for couples looking for a rustic venue with a little bit of elegance. The barn here is gorgeous, with a loft for getting ready and a huge chandelier that adds a touch of glamour to the rustic setting. It’s like they took the best parts of a barn and turned them into something a little fancier.
But it’s not just the barn that makes Langtry Walk stand out. The property has a bunch of different spots for portraits—everything from fields to forests—and it’s close to Island View Beach, which is a prime spot for beach photos (if you’re into that kind of thing). The ceremony site is outdoors with a great view of the mountains. If you’re after a beautiful venue that’s close to nature but still feels elegant, Langtry Walk is a solid choice.
Photographer’s tip: After the ceremony, head over to Island View Beach for some beachy portraits. The contrast between the rustic barn and the coastal vibes is perfect for mixing up your photo album.
Bird's Eye Cove Farm
Located at the southern tip of Vancouver Island, Bird’s Eye Cove Farm has everything you could ask for in a rustic venue—and then some. First off, there are Highland cows. Yes, you read that right. Highland cows. If that’s not the definition of rustic charm, I don’t know what is. And those cows aren’t just cute, they’re part of the stunning backdrop of rolling fields and distant mountains that make for amazing wedding photos.
The barn here is new but designed to look rustic, with massive floor-to-ceiling windows that give you perfect natural light for your ceremony and portraits. Plus, in case the rain decides to show up (this is Vancouver Island, after all), the barn doubles as a solid backup spot. The loft in the barn is a great place for getting ready, and there’s even a cabin on-site so you don’t have to go far on your wedding day. All in all, it’s a fantastic place for a laid-back but beautiful wedding. (Check out more photos from this Winter Bird’s Eye Cove Wedding!)
Photographer’s tip: This venue is perfect for winter weddings if you want to be close to nature (hello giant windows!) but out of the cold. I’m looking forward to shooting a summer wedding here in 2025!
Brannen Lake Estates
If you want a venue that’s a little off the beaten path and feels like your own private slice of paradise, Brannen Lake Estates should be on your radar. This place has it all: forest paths, lake views, and a constant stream of improvements from the owner to keep things looking top-notch. On the upper section of the property, you’ll find a forest trail that leads to a clearing for your ceremony. With Brannen Lake as your backdrop, it’s like something straight out of a movie (but better, because it’s your wedding).
Brannen Lake Estates also has tons of space for photos—whether you’re into wide-open fields or tree-filled forests. The reception area is a tent with a paved pad, and if you need an indoor backup, there’s a building for that too. On the lower part of the property, there’s a getting-ready suite and a dock that leads right onto the lake for some jaw-dropping sunset photos.
Photographer’s tip: The dock is beautiful for sunset photos, but if we’re short on time or you just want to keep it simple, there’s a huge open field that makes for a great golden hour location!
Final thoughts on my favourite rustic wedding venues on Vancouver Island
These three rustic wedding venues on Vancouver Island might not be as common as some other styles, but trust me—they’re absolutely worth checking out. Whether you’re into farm animals, lake views, or jaw-dropping mountain backdrops, these venues have everything you need for a memorable rustic celebration.
And if you’re looking for a photographer who’s all about capturing those candid moments, stunning landscapes, and maybe even a few Highland cows, I’d love to help you tell your story. Just don’t ask me to herd any cows—I’m still working on my animal-wrangling skills.
