If you’ve been dreaming of a Gabriola Island wedding that combines breathtaking natural beauty, vibrant colors, and a little bit of ocean magic, look no further than Alex and Marcel’s incredible celebration at Dragon’s Lodge. Their wedding was the perfect fusion of love, creativity, and stunning surroundings, and I’m excited to share the unforgettable details from their special day!
A Perfect Venue for a Gabriola Island Wedding
When Alex and Marcel chose Dragon’s Lodge on Gabriola Island as the venue for their wedding, they were drawn to its serene beauty and sweeping ocean views. Dragon’s Lodge is a one-of-a-kind venue, perched on the island’s coastline, offering panoramic vistas of the Pacific Ocean. The lodge’s rustic charm, paired with its secluded atmosphere, made it the perfect setting for their intimate celebration.
One of the highlights of Dragon’s Lodge is how seamlessly the venue blends with the surrounding environment. From the ceremony overlooking the water to the chance for guests to witness marine life up close, it’s a wedding venue that immerses you in nature’s wonders. And, for couples planning a Gabriola Island wedding, the lodge offers the unique benefit of on-site accommodations. This allows you and your guests to stay together for an extended weekend celebration, making it easy to savor every moment.
Bold Colours and Stunning Florals
Alex and Marcel’s Gabriola Island wedding was a celebration of colour in every sense of the word. The couple made sure their day reflected their fun, lively personalities.
Wild Bee Florals worked their magic with an array of vibrant flowers sprinkled throughout the venue, from the ceremony to the reception tables. But the most unique touch was Alex’s custom veil, embroidered with colourful flowers that added a whimsical element to her bridal look.
And, of course, Marcel’s orange suit was the perfect statement piece! The bold colour suited him perfectly, embodying the couple’s joyful energy.
A Special Entrance: Ricky and Layla Join the Celebration
Ricky and Layla, the couple’s dogs, played an important role in the ceremony. Ricky walked down the aisle with Marcel, and then Layla walking down the aisle alongside Alex. (In between, their wedding party walked down followed by Marcel’s grandmothers who were the flower girls!)
After the vows were exchanged, we couldn’t resist capturing a few portraits with Ricky and Layla, and it was clear that the couple’s love for their pets made this wedding even more special.
A Surprise Guest Appeared During the Reception
One of the most unforgettable moments of Alex and Marcel’s wedding came when a surprise guest made an appearance—a whale! As the reception buzzed with laughter and dancing, I couldn’t help but notice a few splashes out in the ocean. To everyone’s amazement, a humpback whale had decided to join the celebration.
As the sun began to set, the whale put on a spectacular show—breaching, splashing, and flipping in the water as if it were celebrating with us. The guests gathered outside, all eyes on the ocean as the majestic creature made its presence known. It was a magical moment that perfectly encapsulated the beauty and wonder of a Gabriola Island wedding.
