Looking Back to 2019
Today on the blog I am reminiscing on Jordan and Mack’s incredible New Years Eve 2019 winter wedding! This was one of my last weddings before COVID and looking through these photos has me so excited for the future. I can’t wait for the day when weddings can have dance floors and hugs again.
I will book a few weddings in Ontario each year, which gives me a chance to see my family. Also, as much as I absolutely love being on Vancouver Island, I do miss some parts of shooting weddings back at home. For example, the sunsets over Lake Huron make for incomparable golden hours. I also love a good winter wedding in the snow! Jordan and Mack’s wedding took place in the Southampton area, and although it was a blustery winter day we did still get an incredible Bruce County sunset.
The Wedding Day
We started the day with getting ready photos. I had way too much fun with the detail shots! Jordan put so much thought and love into every little detail of the wedding day so I wanted to make sure that was captured. She wore her grandmother’s fur coat, which was the perfect accessory (and very necessary) for cozy winter portraits.
The first look took place in the blowing snow; I may have cried and let’s just say it wasn’t because the wind was in my face. Next, we toured around to a few locations in Southampton for portraits. Mack is a firefighter, so of course we had to stop at the firehall. I love when we can incorporate the couples’ jobs or interests in photos (and the firehall lighting was so moody, which is really fun to work with from a photographer’s perspective). We also stopped in to see Mack’s grandfather, who was so stoked to see the bride and groom in their wedding attire; it was the most adorable emotional moment.
One of the highlights of the day was during the church ceremony. Just as the bride was walking down the aisle, a burst of golden hour sunlight came pouring through the windows. After feeling like we were in a snow globe the entire day until that point, it was surreal.
This was one of the last few weddings with an open dance floor that I got to shoot pre-COVID. Looking back on the reception photos, I miss being able to get out on the dance floor with my camera and capture everyone letting loose. I also loved getting to sneak out with the bride and groom for some snowy night portraits. Check them out below!
