Neck Point Park: the perfect fall family session location
This fall family session at Neck Point Park in Nanaimo was filled with so much joy! We chose this location because Tabitha and Matt got married here, and not to mention it’s gorgeous in the fall. Little Ellie had us laughing the entire time. She loved exploring the beaches of Neck Point Park and playing in the leaves. Like me, though, her greatest priorities were snacks and pointing out all the cute dogs.
The key to keeping toddlers and children happy during family sessions is choosing locations that are interesting and fun. Neck Point has several different beaches, forest areas, and lots of autumn leaves to play in. Whenever Ellie got bored or fussy in one location, we took a break and walked to the next spot along the trail. Often, those in-between moments as we meander from one spot to the next make for the best candid photos.
Mamas need to be in photos too
One of the main concerns I hear from my family session clients is that moms often don’t get to be in photos with their kids. Instead, they’re usually the ones behind the camera capturing all the family memories. I love getting mamas interacting with their loved ones. Personally, my favourite childhood photos are candid shots with my mom and me!
Tabitha was a little worried during the shoot, because E chose this time to be a major daddy’s girl (or Miss Independent, and wanted to explore rather than pose). As you’ll see here, by doing fun things like exploring and playing games, we were able to get so many real moments of mama and her girl. I love getting to surprise my clients with lots of candid moments so they can remember this stage of life.
This session was so special! Neck Point Park is one of my go-to locations for family sessions. Another nearby favourite of mine is Piper’s Lagoon, which you can see in this gallery.
